1. What is the Cross Country Medical Plan?
The Cross Country Medical Plan (CCMP) allows eligible Assuria health members to access participating healthcare providers in Guyana and Suriname using the benefits available under their existing health coverage.
2. Who can use CCMP?
CCMP is available to eligible members and insured dependants covered under participating Assuria Group/Individual Health policies. For Guyana groups, the employer must accept the applicable CCMP terms, and Assuria must activate the service for the group.
3. Is there an additional premium for CCMP?
No. There is no additional premium for CCMP. However, deductibles, co-insurance, co-payments and other member-payable amounts under the existing policy will continue to apply.
4. Does CCMP provide additional health benefits?
No. CCMP allows members to use their existing health benefits in the other participating country. It does not create a new or separate benefit limit.
5. Which countries are included?
CCMP currently facilitates access to participating healthcare providers in Guyana and Suriname.
6. What must I do before travelling?
Contact Assuria and request a current Schedule of Benefits at least three working days before travelling. You should also confirm that your Medical Card and identification are valid.
7. What is a Schedule of Benefits?
A Schedule of Benefits, or SOB, confirms your available health benefits, applicable limits, validity period and the exchange rate to be used. It also includes a QR code that provides access to the current list of participating providers.
8. How long is my SOB valid?
An SOB issued by Assuria Guyana will be valid for one month in normal cases. Suriname members staying in Guyana for a longer period may request an extension before the SOB expires, subject to approval.
Always check the effective and expiry dates shown on your SOB.
9. What documents must I present to the provider?
You must present:
- Your valid Assuria Medical Card.
- A current Schedule of Benefits.
- A valid national identification card or passport.
10. How can I find a participating provider?
Scan the QR code on your SOB or visit the Guyana Providers or Suriname Providers section of the CCMP webpage. Provider lists may be updated, so always check the current directory before arranging treatment.
11. Can I visit any healthcare provider?
You must use a participating CCMP provider to access the coordinated provider-payment process. If you visit a non-participating provider, you may have to pay the full cost and submit a reimbursement claim to the Assuria office where your policy was issued.
12. Will I have to pay the provider?
Where treatment is covered and falls within your available benefit limit, Assuria will coordinate payment with the participating provider.
You remain responsible for any deductible, co-payment, co-insurance, excluded expense, unsupported charge or amount exceeding your available benefit.
13. Does presenting my Medical Card and SOB guarantee payment?
No. These documents allow the provider and Assuria to verify your coverage. Final approval remains subject to your policy benefits, limits, exclusions, medical eligibility and claims requirements.
14. What happens if treatment exceeds the limit shown on my SOB?
The provider must contact Assuria for verification and approval before proceeding. If the additional amount is approved, Assuria may issue a Guarantee Letter.
Any treatment or amount that is not approved remains the responsibility of the member or policyholder.
15. What is a Guarantee Letter?
A Guarantee Letter is issued by Assuria when specific treatment or an amount above the limit shown on the SOB has been approved. It applies only to the treatment and amount stated in the letter.
16. What happens if I need urgent treatment?
You should seek the medical assistance you require. Necessary immediate stabilising treatment should not be delayed while verification is being completed.
You or the provider should contact Assuria as soon as possible. Payment remains subject to your policy benefits, limits, exclusions and final claims review.
17. Can I use CCMP for planned medical treatment?
Yes, provided the treatment is covered under your existing policy and the required approval is obtained beforehand. Contact Assuria before travelling or arranging planned treatment, especially if the expected cost may exceed your available benefit.
18. What exchange rate will be used?
Assuria Guyana and Assuria Suriname agree on a CCMP exchange rate at the beginning of each month. The applicable rate will be shown on your SOB.
Members and providers do not need to independently obtain, verify or calculate the exchange rate.
19. What if I pay for treatment myself?
Keep the itemised invoice, receipt, medical report, prescription and any other supporting documents. Submit your claim to an Assuria office in the country where your policy was issued.
Reimbursement will be assessed under your existing policy and is not guaranteed for the full amount paid.
20. Who makes the final decision on my claim?
The Assuria company that issued your health coverage is responsible for the final review and confirmation of whether the claim is payable.
21. What happens if my SOB expires while I am overseas?
Contact Assuria before the expiry date to request a new or extended SOB. Approval is not automatic, and an SOB does not extend the expiry date of the underlying health policy.
22. What if my Group Health Policy unexpectedly ends after my SOB has been issued?
For an SOB issued by Assuria Guyana, Assuria Guyana will honour otherwise eligible claims incurred between the policy cancellation date and the expiry date shown on the already-issued SOB.
Claims incurred after the SOB expires will not be covered under this exception.
23. Who should I contact for assistance?
Contact the Assuria office in the country where your health policy was issued.
